Disable Auto-Pop from Update Manager

gconftool -s --type bool /apps/update-notifier/auto_launch false

Disable All libnotify notifications from gnome

sudo mv /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Notifications.service /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Notifications.service.disabled

Take the window manager controls back to the right

gconftool-2 --type string --set "/apps/metacity/general/button_layout" "menu:minimize,maximize,close"
