First of all, let me say that I'm not defending any version of windows, so this is become the same old bullshit all the time.
When Microsoft starts Windows95, users anti-Microsoft start the comments:
* Too many disk space wasted.
* Too many memory used.
* Too many drivers doesn't work.
* Interface is too different from the predecessor.
The same thing you can hear about windows98, and windows ME, and Windows XP and Windows Vista. In my opinion this is a complete bullshit.
With Windows ME, normal installation is something like 512Mb of disk (at this time, the average size of hard-disks are 40-80 Gb).
With Windows XP, normal installation is something like 1.5Gb of disk (at this time, the average size of hard-disks are 120-150 Gb).
With Windows Vista, normal installation is something like 9Gb of disk (at this time, the average size of hard-disks are 300-700 Gb).
I think you got the point.
I know, Vista is a big load of shit because the incompatibility causes some mess inside the system, a lot of applications cease to work, and now we have a lot of stupid things from Microsoft, like DRM and the "ability" of applications erase your files just because the same app doesn't find a license. But... years passes and the comments are all the same.
Yeah, 9Gb from a regular installation are something big.. With OpenSUSE 10.2, a full installation consumes just 9Gb of disk (with gnome, kde, and all devel stuff). But in every new version, we hear and read the same comments. People forgot one thing: New versions are molded to use average hardware. what company will develop an full OS to work in companies around the world to run from 486 to Pentium4EE? Why people don't say the same about Neverwinter Nights 2? Because is easily say something about Microsoft.
The same thing you can find about linux. When people doesn't want migrate to linux says "oh.. linux is too difficult yo me", "I don't know command line stuff", but all of us know about this, this is another complete bullshit to another long post. "If you change the color of the grass, all donkeys will die of hungry".
